I'll admit it... I haven't always been a keen gardener!
Tending plants and growing food was not a passion from an early age. But once I tried it I realised I had been missing out.
I care a lot about our planet and the people, plants and animals that live here and my eco-anxiety can feel overwhelming at times. Gardening offers a practical solution to help calm this anxiety.
Whether it's watching a bee enjoy the flowers I grew or harvesting a cucumber which is not wrapped in plastic, it all feels a lot more positive than doom-scrolling and wallowing in despair.
The realisation that gardening had so many amazing benefits led me to want to share this discovery with as many people as possible.
So I became a qualified Social and Therapeutic Horticulturist and started running therapeutic gardening sessions with children.
I founded Lettuce Grow to bring the benefits of therapeutic gardening to as many people as possible - in schools, small groups and private sessions - reaching those who might not otherwise have access to this kind of support.
My approach is calm and child-centred with a strong belief in the healing power of plants, play and purposeful activity. I find that kids often instinctively know what activities to focus on to get the most out of their time in the garden. Whether it's digging to release excess energy, sowing seeds to improve focus or watching insects to calm the mind, there is something for everyone in the garden.
Our private group and individual sessions take place in Aldbourne Community Garden, Whitley Road, Aldbourne, Wiltshire.
Our Schools Programmes take place in local schools during the school day.
For individual sessions it may be possible to run sessions in your garden if it is suitable.
